This study of the grammar and vocabulary of British and American English is the first of a series of publications comparing these two varieties of English.
The original proposal for such a series was made by the late Professor Alfred Reszkiewicz, under whose inspiration and guidance we have had the privilege to work.
For many years he strove tirelessly to make the English language better known in Poland and we would like this volume to be dedicated to his memory. We wish to thank Dr Biedrzycki who has taken over as the general editor of the series for his help and cooperation.
