The games in this book have been designed to practise grammar, not to introduce or explain it. This book assumes that the class has already met each grammar point, and that it has been explained in the textbook or course that they are following. The games are to be used as practice exercises to help students get used to and remember grammatical rules and patterns. They are designed as fun activities to help lighten the load of grammar learning.
Some games in the book are what could be called 'choice' games. These tend to be more analytic, based on the conscious application of a grammar rule. In them the players have to choose the correct linguistic form, rather as in traditional grammar exercise types such as gap-fill, sentence completion, multiple choice, etc. The difference is not only, that they are in game format, which means they are more fun and lighter-hearted, but also that in most cases there is a context for the game, whereas most grammar exercises are a collection of unrelated sentences.
