The collection of Cypriote coins in the British Museum, although it contains many gaps in the series of the fourth century, is probably richer than any other collection in the early series. This is due to the acquisition in 1870, 1871 and 1902 of the greater and better preserved portion of the coins discovered by Sir R. Hamilton Lang at Dali. Thanks to these acquisitions, the collection contains a considerable number of unique varieties, and is also very rich in specimens of the commoner coins.
